i think if this was explained a bit more to me then i would be able to understand, i think, if there is no need for anyone else to use the loot and as a trial rank the item was needed by you as it would genuinely improve your gear then maybe with leaders permission you should be allowed something.
if it is for gold/disenchant/other purposes then this would seem fair
